DID YOU KNOW...?

Spiders are not insects. They are members of a group of animals called arachnids. Insects have 6 legs, arachnids have 8.

Many of the common garden spiders build a new orb web everyday!

All spiders are carnivores (meat eaters). They eat insects, worms, bugs and even other spiders!

A Mayfly is born and dies in the same day.

Ants never live alone. A bunch of ants living together is called a colony. The place where a colony of ants live is called the nest.

A bat may eat 500 insects in one hour!

A worm can have up to five hearts!

A fish's tail provides the power to move the fish forward. Fins steer and maneuver the fish and provide the ability to travel in all directions.

Fast, hunter fish like barracudas and pikes have long, slim bodies and sharp teeth. Slower swimmers have rounded bodies.

There is a lateral line along the body of a fish which has a row of sense organs. This allows a fish to detect movements made by other creatures in the water around them.

If you are following animal tracks and suddenly lose the trail, mark the last track with a stick. Then explore all around it until you find the trail again.
