The Ready to
Learn Service on
Milwaukee Public Television offers:
- A daily line-up of children's programming, specially
designed to meet the needs of preschool and school-age
children.
- Educational messages between programs that urge
children to be creative, curious, cooperative and
responsible learners.
- Supplementary educational materials for children and
adults.
- A strong literacy component--including PBS Families
newsletter and First Book, a program to distribute free
books to children who might not otherwise have them, the
local Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators
Awards competition, and the summer Vacation Station
project.
- Training sessions and workshops for families,
teachers and caregivers.
- Participation in school and community education /
health fairs for children.
The Ready to Learn
Service demonstrates public television's
commitment to serve the nation's children by providing
quality educational programming. Building on that foundation
and joining it with a strong commitment to early literacy.
