Inside MPTV: Tour Information

Tour Information

These interesting and informative tours are open to the public. Such groups as boy and girl scouts, media classes, retirement groups, tours through other organizations or tour groups, and people with special needs are among those who are welcomed to MPTV studios every year!

Tours are conducted as a free community service of Milwaukee Public Television, on WEEKDAYS only. Start times range from 10:30am to 3:30pm. Tours last approximately 60 minutes. Reservations are required two weeks in advance. Please be sure to change it on the printable version as well. Participants must be in first grade or older.

On request, teachers receive lesson plans to reinforce the tour experience. Participants are encouraged to watch locally produced programs, usually at 6:30 pm weekdays on MPTV-10, to notice what the backdrops look like, and to prepare questions prior to their tour.

TOUR GUIDES
Tour guides are trained volunteers or staff members who present MPTV studios, control rooms, and the prop room. Guides may also explain the management, operations, training, and fund-raising aspects of the station. Guests have a chance to see themselves on the TOUR-CAM. Note: Due to quality issues in the process of making a TV production, tours of MPTV do NOT include viewing a live production or a television taping.

ACCOMMODATIONS
Groups of 5 to 30 people can be accommodated comfortably at one time. Simultaneous tours may be given to groups up to 60 people at once. Larger groups sometimes decide to send a portion of their group to nearby restaurants, or the Milwaukee Museum or the Journal Sentinel. Groups of 4 or fewer may join tours already scheduled, or invite along a few folks, to get up to the 5-person minimum.

DIRECTIONS TO MILWAUKEE PUBLIC TELEVISON & PARKING
Street parking is limited. Parking lots are located on the west side of the street on 8th Street for a fee. There is no bus parking available. Bus drivers often choose to drive around. A handicapped access door is available on the corner of 8th and Highland. The stations are located in the C Building on the MATC Campus in downtown Milwaukee, at 1036 N. 8th St. The entrance is at the intersection of 8th St. & Highland Ave. (this is near the Bradley Center). The elevator is just past the vending machines, on the right, across from pay phones. Pushing the "TV" button in the elevator brings passengers to the stations reception area on the 4th floor. On return, pushing the 2nd Fl. button brings visitors back to ground level.
