Melinda Myers, host of Great Lakes Gardener

Melinda Myers provides gardener-friendly advice based on more than 25 years working in the horticultural profession and in her own garden. She holds a master’s degree in horticulture from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and has taught horticulture at the college level.

Host for Wisconsin Lawn and Garden, an earlier Milwaukee Public Television program, Melinda also has provided gardening wisdom on both statewide and national radio.

Melinda is a garden editor and columnist for “Birds and Blooms,” a magazine that reaches nearly two million gardening households throughout the United States and Canada, and “Backyard Living,” which has nearly 900,000 subscribers. She also has written more than a dozen books about gardening and related topics, including Can’t Miss Small Space Gardening, which was released nationwide in 2006.

For her work, community service and media presence, Melinda has received recognition and numerous awards, including the 2003 Garden Globe Award for radio talent and the Quill and Trowel Award for her television work, both from the Garden Writers Association. She has also received the Garden Communicator’s Award from the American Nursery and Landscape Association, the Gold Leaf Award for Arbor Day from the International Society of Arboriculture, the 2005 Peter H. Johnson Image Award from the Milwaukee Chapter of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI), and the 2005 Honorary Life Membership Award from the Wisconsin Arborist Association. In 2004 she was recognized by the Greater Milwaukee Chapter of Association Professionals as a Partner in Philanthropy.
