Fall Gardening Tips

•It's a great time to plant tulips. Late fall planting discourages early sprouting of many types of bulbs.

•Make sure to harvest your pumpkins and gourds before frost.

•Make your own tree guards from chicken wire or hardware cloth. This helps discourage rodents and deer from stripping bark during the winter.

•Fall is about the most important time for lawn fertilization. You should do it now, by Halloween. This encourages strong fall root development for a healthier lawn next spring.

•If you're an apple grower, it's time to gather them up for apple cider, apple pies and apple strudel.
