Garden Tips

What do I do if I didn't get a chance to plant bulbs in my yard this fall?

If you're like me, that's not that uncommon a problem! But take heart- Bulbs can be planted until the ground freezes, so if you haven't done it by the time the ground hardens, maybe it's too late. But if you can get a shovel in the ground, you can still plant. Unplanted bulbs can be stored or forced indoors. Bulbs stored at cold temperatures (40-50 degrees) and planted outdoors in spring will flower, just a bit later than their fall-planted counterparts. To force bulbs for indoor bloom, plant them in a soil filled container or perforated plastic bag filled with peat moss. Store at 40 degree temperature for 12 weeks, then pot them and place in sunny window. Flowers will bloom in four to six weeks.
