The family legend leads to a forgotten history in Lucky Lindy's legendary flight. A man in Kansas City, MO, found two peculiar pins, wrapped in a newspaper dated 1960, that had been manipulated to contain liquid. Could these pins be the prototypes of a poison-filled pin that U2 pilot Gary Powers was carrying when his spy-plane was shot down over the Soviet Union? A New Mexico woman's great-great-grandfather was lieutenant governor of the New Mexico territory in the 1870s. She has a photo of an Indian warrior on horseback. What looked like a Marcus Garvey signature on the papers saved them. Garvey founded the steamship company through his United Negro Improvement Association. He fought for African American economic self-reliance and political self-determination. Mickey Mouse's Origin: Popular history has it that Mickey Mouse was born from a drawing sketched on a napkin by Walt Disney, in 1928. A San Francisco toy collector believes his small mouse figurine may turn the legend on its ears. With a patent label that says "Pat. Aug. 17, 1926," the figure appears to have been produced 2 years before Disney created Mickey Mouse. Pro-Nazi Newspaper: A Hearne, TX, resident heard rumors that a WWII German POW camp was based in her town. A tiny printing block just may hold the key to this mystery.

An Untold Triumph

(Rpt)
PBS
Winner of the Audience Award for Best Documentary at the 2002 Hawaii International Film Festival, this program documents and honors the 7,000 men of the 1st and 2nd Filipino Infantry Regiments of the U.S. Army, who fought in World War II. Even though they endured a racist prewar climate, and weren't even considered U.S. citizens, Filipinos in America rallied to join the American war effort, after the fateful bombing of Pearl Harbor. On January 2, 1942, President Roosevelt signed an executive order allowing Filipinos to join the U.S. Army and form a volunteer all-Filipino unit. These troops proved to be skilled fighters, and an indispensable force, in freeing the Philippines from the Japanese and--ultimately--in the winning of World War II. Personal accounts are imparted, of the men's contributions and sacrifices during the war. Lou Diamond Phillips narrates.
